The SpectrAlert series (commonly referred to as “the original SpectrAlerts”, or “SpectrAlert classics”) are a series of notifications appliances from System Sensor. These were the first System Sensor appliances to include synchronization and temporal 3.

History

The SpectrAlert series was released in 1997 with wall-mount horns, strobes, and horn strobes.[1] The horn strobes were redesigned from the Mini-Alert ADA horn strobes, with the strobe moved to the bottom of the device and enlarged. The horns and strobes were designed consistent with the horn strobes. These first models had fixed candela, and they used a screw on style mounting bracket.

In 1998, ceiling-mount strobes and horn strobes were released.[2] These introduced the notification appliance design where a central strobe is surrounded by the audible grille.

In 1999, the SP200 speakers were released.[3] These featured higher fidelity sound output compared to the SP100 series. The wall-mount speaker strobes consisted of a speaker to the side of a reversible strobe, while the ceiling-mount speaker strobes used a similar design to the ceiling-mount horn strobes.

The second generation SpectrAlerts are also fixed candela, and used "QuickClick" style mounting brackets instead of a screw style mounting bracket. The "QuickClick" mounting brackets snap into place when the device is placed on the bracket and uses a flathead screwdriver or a removal tool to remove the device off the bracket.

In 2003, multi-candela wall-mount strobes were released, those models use the MC suffix and the single-candela wall strobes were discontinued shortly after.[4][5][6]

At the end of 2005, the SP300 speakers were released.[7] These provided a higher SPL output compared to the SP200 speakers, but the fidelity was not as high. The design was the same as the SP200 speakers, except there were no ceiling-mount SP300 speaker strobes.

The horns, chimes, and chime strobes were discontinued in November 2006 when the SpectrAlert Advance was released.[8][9][10] All strobes and horn strobes besides the 120VAC models were discontinued by the beginning of 2007.[11][12] The speakers were discontinued between 2008 and 2009, as the SpectrAlert Advance speakers were not released until then.[13]
