The Wheelock MIZ series is a series of mini-horns and horn strobes.

History

The MIZ was released in 1989 together with the EH series horn. The series initially consisted of horns and horn strobes using WS strobes.[3] A WM strobe model was later released.[4]

In 1993, models with ADA strobes were released. Specifically, models were produced with the the LS, LSM, MS, IS, and HSW. Because the HSW strobe could only be oriented horizontally, the HSW model had a larger plate to accommodate the strobe above the horn.

After the AS was released, the HSW model was discontinued and replaced with the AS-24110-HFR, which had a smaller footprint.

The MIZ series became part of the NACAlert series after it formed.[5] The strobe models were discontinued around this time due to the high profile that would be needed if the strobe models started using horizontal strobes.[6] The newly released NS provided a lower profile and lower current draw for strobe applications.

Around 2000, the MIZ-TC models were released.[7] These models could be set to output Code 3 without external coding, but they could not be synchronized.

In 2003, the MIZ-24S replaced these models.[8] The MIZ-24S had a synchronizable Code 3 horn, and the tone was changed to a broadband tone, making the series competitive with the Edwards Genesis series horns and Siemens U-MHU-1G.[9]

Siemens rebranded the MIZ series as the MH series starting around 2007 as a result of the Wheelock, Inc., v. Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. lawsuit that required the Siemens U series to be discontinued. The series was also sold under the Faraday brand to replace the 6300 series and 2800 series.
