Wheelock, Inc., v. Siemens Building Technologies, Inc.
Wheelock, Inc. vs. Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. was a patent infringement lawsuit between Wheelock and Siemens between 2005 and 2006.
The lawsuit claimed that Siemens was infringing 3 patents. The first patent was patent 5608375, which covered the sync protocol between AS series and SM series. The second was patent 5751210, which was a division of patent 5608375 that specifically covered the AS series. The third was patent 5982275, which was a continuation of patent 5751210 that covered the SM series.
The case was settled in late 2006, when Wheelock and Siemens reached an agreement requiring Siemens to rebrand Wheelock's notification appliances until 2015. This led to the release of the Siemens '08 Series of rebranded Wheelock products, and Wheelock filed patent 7403096 in response to this agreement. In the present day, Siemens continues to rebrand Wheelock products, with the exception of the Z series, which Siemens purchased the patents for.
