The Wheelock A series is a series of synchronized horns and two-wire horn strobes and the first horn strobes to support audible silence over two wires, as well as Wheelock's first horn strobes to mount on a universal mounting plate. The A series was produced alongside several other series such as the N series before it was discontinued in March 2010 and replaced with the Exceder series.

History

The A series was released in 1995 with the same horn as the MT. The original 15, 15/75, 30, and 75 candela strobe models featured a vertical strobe to the right of the horn, resembling the Simplex 4903 series ADA horn strobes. The 110 candela models had a horizontal strobe above the horn. The original models only outputted a continuous tone when receiving a constant input voltage, but they switched to Code 3 when receiving the synchronization protocol.[3]

The AS was updated in 1997 along with the release of the NS to give all models a horizontal strobe above the horn.[4] The A series was updated again in 1998 to gain a free-run Code 3 option.[5]

A multi-candela version of the AS was released in 1999 as part of the SPEC1FIRE series. A ceiling-mount multi-candela model was released in 2003,[6] and high-intensity multi-candela models were released later in 2003.[7]

The A series was discontinued in 2010 and succeeded by the Exceder HS series.

Features

The A series horns can be synchronized when connected to an SM or DSM. There are 3 volume settings, and the horns are capable of outputting either a continuous horn or a Code 3 horn.

Depending on the model of an AS horn strobe, the strobe could output 15, 15/75, 30, 75, 110, 115, 135, 177, or 185 candela.

Siemens

Siemens started rebranding the A series around 2007, when the Wheelock, Inc., v. Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. lawsuit required the Siemens U series to be discontinued. The series was also sold under the Faraday brand to replace the 6300 series and 2800 series.
