The Simplex 4903 series is a series of strobe plates and combination strobes. The 4903 series was first introduced around 1989–90 as the light plates and 4.75CD Strobe plates. In around 1992, Simplex replaced those with the 4903–9105 100CD strobe plates with a magnified strobe from Gentex. They replaced the strobe design in 1994 with a clear lensed 15/75CD strobe with a reflector. In around 1993–94 was when they introduced the 15, 30 & 110CD units that we use today. The original 1993–94 units only flashed at 24 times a minute while in late 1994 they changed the flash rate to 60 times a minute and introduced separate 4903–93XX Speaker/Strobes & 4903–94XX Horn/Strobes that had synchronized strobes. These separate Free Run only 4903–91XX Series Speaker/Strobes & 4903–92XX Series Horn strobes and their synchronized 4903-93XX & 4903–94XX counterparts were discontinued in 2000. The electromechanical horn/strobes were discontinued however in 1998 being replaced with the Electronic Horns that were introduced that same year and were discontinued in 2000. Simplex also made separate Speaker/Strobe models for 25VRMS & 70VRMS lines. Nowadays Simplex uses selectable 4903s to replace all legacy 4903 units that preceded them. These 4903s have the same exact counterparts as the TrueAlerts and the speaker/strobes were dual voltage. In 1997 Simplex added a colored shape indicator on the strobe reflector to indicate the candela. This included a Green Asterisk to indicate 15CD (or 15/75CD), a Blue Circle to indicate 30CD (or 30/110CD) and an Orange Triangle to indicate 110CD. In around late 1999 Simplex used clear candela stickers using black numbers and letters inside of a round white circle to indicate the candela.
