The Wheelock WS series was the first series of independent xenon strobes.

History

The WS series was released between 1977 and 1979, around when the 7000 series was released.[1][2] The strobe was originally available as a remote strobe and as part of a 30 series 4-wire horn strobe. The lens was available in white, red, amber, green, or blue.

In 1981, Wheelock released 800 series speaker strobes with a similar design to the horn strobes.[3]

Around 1985, Wheelock discontinued the pigtail models of the WS series remote strobes. Around 1988, Wheelock discontinued the amber, green, and blue lens models.

In 1994, the UL 1971 requirements took effect, preventing WS strobes from being produced for UL fire alarm systems.[4] The WS series was discontinued in the United States at this time, but it remained in production for ULC systems until the end of 2001.[5]
