The Wheelock 7000 series was the first series of horn strobes.

History

The 7000 series was released in 1977 as a horn strobe version of the 30 series. These devices featured patented technology so that the 7000 series horn strobes would draw no additional current compared to the 30 series horns.[2]

Wheelock offered two options with regards to how these signals were wired up. Many devices had pigtail connectors, but some had screw terminals. Models with terminals had "T" in their model numbers.

In 1984, the grille was redesigned to be vandal resistant, and shortly thereafter, models with pigtail wires were discontinued. Until recently, a common misconception was that "T" stood for the version with the tamper proof grille.

The 7000 series was discontinued in 1994 due to the UL 1971 / ADA requirements preventing 7000 series strobes from being used as indoor public mode notification appliances because of their low-intensity.

* The 700_ and 700_T models were introduced at the same time. It was also a common misconception that the non-T models were the predecessors to the T models; however, pigtail connectors were more popular than screw terminals prior to the grille redesign.
