The Wheelock AMT is a series of multitone horns and horn strobes.

History

The AMT was in development as early as 1991, when Wheelock included some details of the AMT in the patent for the AES. This early version could either operate with a single tone selection or under 4 possible tone groups:

Code 3 and march time horns and a Code 3 tone were added after this point, and the single tone selection feature was released separately as the MT in 1993.

The AMT was released in 1995 as a remote horn and horn strobe, following the same design as the MT. Initial strobe models used LS, LSM, and IS strobes.

In 1998, NYC models were released with a specialized tone group.

In 2002, the AMT was updated to use the new 15/75 and 75 candela strobes used by the MT. The LS/LSM/IS models were discontinued at this time.

In March 2004, the AMT-24MCW-FR and AMT-24MCW-FW were released, and the AMT-2475W models were discontinued at the end of April 2004.

At the end of 2015, the AMT-241575W models (including the NYC models) were discontinued, and customers were instructed to switch to the AMT-24MCW.

In 2018, the AMT-12/24-R-NYC was discontinued. Customers were instructed to switch to the AMT-12/24-R.

In 2023, the strobe models of the AMT were discontinued, and customers were recommended to either use a separate strobe or the RSSP when an AMT with a strobe is required. The Eluxa replacement was introduced in March 2025.

In August 2025, it was observed that the AMT horns were marked as "to be discontinued" on Eaton's website.

Features

The AMT horn features 3 pairs of terminals for 3 tones, each of which is assigned a priority. 8 sets of tones are selectable, and there are a total of 9 tones, including a 700 Hz vibrating chime tone that was not present on the MT.

Strobe models feature an additional pair of terminals for the strobe. The strobe can operate in unison with the audible signal, and the horizontal strobe models are synchronizable.
