The Wheelock Z series is a series of horns, strobes, and horn strobes with a common mounting base that can be prewired before mounting the notification appliances.

History

The Z series was released in 2006 to compete with the Gentex Commander series. The original strobe models had central strobes resembling the RSS and FIRE lettering along the sides that resembled the AS.[2] In 2007, the lettering on wall-mount models was moved to the bottom right of the device, similar to the E70.[3]

The Z series was discontinued in 2010 and replaced with the Exceder series. Wheelock continued to produce these devices for Siemens until April 2024, The Siemens rebrand of the Z series was discontinued in April 2024.

Features

Z series notification appliances are mounted on the ZBASE, which supports universal mounting. The ZBASE has one pair of terminals to control the mounted appliance, which can snap onto the base without any visible mounting screws.

The horns can output either 95 dBA or 90 anechoic dBA at 24VDC, or 89 or 84 dBA at 12VDC.[2] This corresponds to 82 reverberant dBA on high volume at 24VDC or 76 reverberant dBA on low volume at 24VDC.[3] The strobes are multi-candela, with possible options being 15, 30, 75, 95, 110, 115, 135, 177, or 185 candela depending on the model.

Rebrands

Siemens

Siemens rebranded the Z series starting around 2007 as a result of the Wheelock, Inc., v. Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. that required the Siemens U series to be discontinued. The series will be discontinued at the end of April 2024.
