The Wheelock E series is a series of speakers and speaker strobes. The E50/E70 speakers are square-shaped and mainly intended for wall mounting, while the E60/E90 speakers are round and mainly intended for ceiling mounting.

History

The E series was released in 1989 as an alternative to the ET series for smaller buildings. The original E series devices had similar designs to the ET-1070 and ET-1090, but there were fewer power taps, and the taps were directly selected by the input terminals instead of a jumper connection.

Around 1995, Wheelock updated the E series speakers to be dual voltage. At this time, the tap selection was also changed to a small movable jumper bridge.

The E70 series was introduced in 1997 as part of the SquareONE brand.[3] The E90 series was also released around this time. These speakers used similar universal mounting plates to the other SquareONE devices, but the grilles required 2 mounting screws. These grilles, known as the ECHG and ECHSG grilles, were also used by the ET70/ET90 series, CH70/CH90 series, and SA-S series.

In 2000, the E70-24MCW was released as part of the SPEC1FIRE series.[4] The E70-24MCC and E90-24MCC were released in June 2003, and the corresponding single-candela strobe models were discontinued in September 2003.[5] The E70-24MCWH and E90-24MCCH were released in September 2003, and the corresponding single-candela strobe models were discontinued in December 2003.[6]

In October 2004, Wheelock released the E50 series as a screw-free alternative to the E70.[7]

In late 2005, Wheelock released the E60 series as a screw-free alternative to the E90.[8] Unlike the E50, the E60 required an extension ring such as the E60EXT.

At the end of 2015, the E50-241575W and E70-241575W were discontinued.[9] Consumers were instructed to switch to the E70-24MCW.

To focus support on the Eluxa series, the E50 and E60 were discontinued in 2021, and the E70 and E90 were discontinued in 2023.[10][2]

Features

The E series speakers have selectable taps for 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, and 2 watts, and either 25 or 70 VRMS, providing between 75 and 87 dB of output.

The strobe is very similar to the RSS, with possible candela outputs of 15, 15/75, 30, 75, 95, 100, 110, 115, 135, 150, 177, or 185 depending on the model.
