The Wheelock Exceder LED series is a series of notification appliances. The strobes in this series use LED2 bulbs.

History

The Exceder LED series was released in 2012 with wall-mount horns, strobes, and horn strobes to complement the xenon devices in the Exceder series. These devices resembled the Edwards Genesis G1 devices. By 2014, Edwards was rebranding these devices with their own housing as the Edwards GL1 series.

In 2013, the Exceder LED wall-mount speakers and speaker strobes were released. These were redesigned E50H speakers in housing that resembled the Edwards Genesis G4 devices.

In 2014, ceiling-mount notification appliances were released. The horns and strobes were redesigned from the xenon Exceder devices, with smaller strobe lenses and larger grilles. The ceiling speakers had a new design with the speaker fully surrounding the central strobe.

The LLFHN and LLFHS low frequency sounders and sounder strobes were also released in 2014, with similar housing to the wall speakers, to meet the NFPA 72 low frequency requirements that took effect in 2014. These introduced a new Code 4 signal to prepare for the NFPA 720 requirements in 2015, and they had a new mode that allowed Code 3 and Code 4 to be provided on the same NAC.

In 2016, the LLFHN and LLFHS were replaced with the LFHNK and LFHSK respectively. The new devices were functionally similar to the old devices, but they were more compact than the original devices, allowing them to fit in a single-gang backbox.

In 2018, the Exceder LED series was discontinued due to the release of the Exceder LED3 series.

Features

The horns in the Exceder LED series can output 95 or 90 anechoic dBA, the speakers output 300-8000 Hz at 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, or 2 watts, and the low frequency sounders output 80 anechoic dBA. The strobes on the low frequency sounders only output 110 candela, while all other strobes can be set to 15, 30, 75, 95 (ceiling models), or 110 candela (wall models).

Compared to low frequency sounders from other companies, the Exceder 520 Hz tone less closely resembles a pure square wave, instead producing a tone with ample static noise.

The low frequency sounders include a Code 3/Code 4 tone that causes the device to output a Code 3 tone when the synchronization module places the horn in audible silence mode and Code 4 at other times. Audible silence is not supported in this mode.

The horns and strobes are designed to mount on a single-gang box, but they can also mount on 4-inch square boxes using an ESB-KIT. The speakers and low frequency sounders are designed to mount on 4-inch square boxes, but the LFHNK and LFHSK can be mounted on single-gang boxes using an LFTP.

Rebrands

Edwards

Edwards rebranded the Exceder LED horns and strobes with their own covers as the Genesis GL series. Shortly after the Exceder LED series was discounted, Edwards released their own lineup of LED devices in the Genesis series (Genesis LED G4S series) to replace the GL1 series.
