The Wheelock RSS is a series of horizontal remote strobes capable of synchronization.

History

The RSS was released in 1997 together with the NS and horizontal RS.[3] Initially, models were produced with the same voltage/candela options as the RS.[4]

In 1999, the multi-candela RSS-24MCW was released as part of the SPEC1FIRE series. This model replaced the wall-mount single-candela strobes, except the 15/75 models.

In March 2002, high-candela models were released.[5] These included a 185 candela strobe for wall mounting and 150 and 177 candela strobes for ceiling mounting.

In November 2002, Wheelock introduced round RSS models as an alternative to the square ceiling-mount strobes.[6]

In June 2003, the RSS-24MCC and RSS-24MCCR were released to replace the standard-intensity single-candela ceiling-mount models, which were discontinued in September 2003.[7] The RSS-24MCWH, RSS-24MCCH, and RSS-24MCCHR were also released in September 2003 to replace the high-intensity single-candela models, which were discontinued in December 2003.[8]

In December 2005, the RSS-24MCCR and RSS-24MCCHR were redesigned to resemble the E60, which was released simultaneously.[9] The RSS-24MCCHR was discontinued in March 2010 and replaced with the ceiling-mount Exceder ST.[10]

At the end of 2015, the 15/75 models of the RSS were discontinued.[11] Consumers were instructed to switch to the RSS-24MCW.

In 2021, the RSS series was discontinued, and consumers were instructed to switch to the Eluxa ELST strobes.

Features

RSS strobes support universal mounting, and they can either free-run or run synchronously. Depending on the model, the candela may be 15, 15/75, 30, 75, 95, 100, 110, 115, 135, 150, 177, or 185.

Siemens

Siemens started rebranding the RSS series around 2007 as a result of the Wheelock, Inc., v. Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. lawsuit that required the Siemens U series to be discontinued.
