The Wheelock CH series is a series of electronic chimes and chime strobes.

History

The CH series was released in 1984 as an electronic successor to the 700 series.[2][3] Initial mounting options included a surface mounting option that most closely resembled the 712 series, as well as a wall flush mounting option and a ceiling flush mounting option.

The CH70 was released in 1997 as part of the SquareONE series, and the CH90 was released around this time. Both support universal mounting, and they use the same grille covers as the E70/E90, ET70/ET90, and SA-S.

In 2000, the CH70-24MCW was released as part of the SPEC1FIRE series of multi-candela appliances.[4][5] The CH90-24MCC was released in June 2003, and the corresponding single-candela models were discontinued in September 2003.[6] The CH70-MCWH and CH90-MCCH were released in September 2003 to provide high-candela options for the chime strobes.[7]

At the end of 2015, the CH70-241575W was discontinued, and consumers were instructed to instead use the CH70-24MCW.[8]

In 2019, the CH70 and CH90 chimes were updated to add a 2 Hz vibrating mode and a synchronizable Code 3 tone. The frequency was also locked to 890 Hz in this update.[9]

In 2023, the CH70 and CH90 were discontinued due to the release of the Eluxa ELCH and ELCHS, which contain the same chime functionality.

Features

The first version of the CH70/CH90 could be set to single stroke or 1 Hz vibrating operation, with an adjustable frequency between 800 Hz and 1200 Hz and a maximum anechoic sound output of 83 dBA. Depending on the model, the strobe could be 15, 15/75, 30, 75, 95, 100, 110, 115, 135, 177, or 185 candela.

The 2019 version of the CH70/CH90 could be set to single stroke, synchronized Code 3, 1 Hz vibrating, or 2 Hz vibrating operation. The frequency was fixed at 890 Hz, but the volume was still adjustable.[9] Depending on the model, the strobe could be 15, 30, 75, 95, 110, 115, 135, 177, or 185 candela.

Siemens started rebranding the CH series around 2007 as a result of the Wheelock, Inc., v. Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. lawsuit that required the Siemens U series to be discontinued.
