"Series" suffix
How should a series be distinguished from a device? For example, although the MDL3 is technically branded as a series, the only difference between the models is the color and listing. If these minor differences are enough to classify the devices as series, then almost every device on the wiki would be classified as a series, even though the "NS series" has a similar scope as the "NH-12/24-R" but not the "NACAlert series." - In my opinion, they are close enough to be considered part of the same series. However, things get blurry when you consider that at one point Wheelock considered the AS and NS to be part of the same SquareONE series. In addition, the weatherproof AH horns use the same circuitry as the HS4 horns. So? The MDL3 is pretty straightforward, but whether to separate the AS, RSS, and NS/NH is a whole different can of worms. HenBasket (talk) 19:40, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
- I think many of the devices you listed definitely belong on separate pages due to their difference in functionality (such as the deeper pitch of the NS). My concern is over the individual "devices" being considered series. For example, would Wheelock AS be appropriately named "Wheelock AS series" because there are different models, such as the AS-2415-VFR and AS-24MCW? Although the AS is technically a series, the word "series" in the phrase "AS series" has a different implicit meaning than it does when referring to the entire SquareONE/NACAlert series. - I feel like the best solution would be to have the separate “smaller” series (i.e., AS, NS, RSS) in their own articles, and have things such as NACAlert and/or SquareONE as categories alongside Pull Stations and Panels. Just a thought. HenBasket (talk) 23:07, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
- That's one idea, although it may still make sense to also have standard pages for the larger series if info on the series itself is desired, since that is how Wikipedia tends to handle this (such as this category being separate from this page). Mhgk (talk) 00:36, 17 February 2024 (UTC)
