The Silent Knight 5200 series is a branch of Silent Knight's 5000 series, which is a family of various fire alarm devices. The 5200 series is a lineup of conventional fire alarm control panels.

History

The 5200 series control panels were introduced in 1988[1], starting with the Silent Knight Model 5207. The 5207 was advertised as "the first moderately priced Fire Control/Communicator that offers remote uploading and downloading over a telephone line." The 5207 was compatible with the 5230 annunciator, which was required for system programming, as the panel did not support programming from the internal keypad. The 5230 featured a compact design, was white with red keys, and it only had one LED which was a power indicator, although it also had a 32-character LCD. The design was based off of some of Silent Knight's security keypads that were manufactured at the time.

In 1992, Silent Knight made a smaller, 4 zone panel, known as the 5204. It made its first appearance in the NFPA Journal Volume 086 Issue 04 in 1992[2], with a large advertisement in the Volume 087 Issue 03 in 1993[3]. The 5204 looked extremely similar to the 5207, but it was much smaller, had a transformer-based power supply (rather than a separate switching power supply board), and the motherboard used surface-mount components. Around this time, the 5206 was also released which was essentially a hybrid of the 5204 and 5207. It had the specifications of the 5204 but it used a separate power supply like the 5207 did. The 5204 also supported the 5230 annunciator, however it was not required for system programming. The 5204 supported step programming through its internal keypad, unlike the 5207.

*The Silent Knight Model 5206 is a very obscure fire panel, with little to no easily accessible documentation or information about it.

In 2000, Silent Knight introduced the 5208, which was the successor of and later the replacement for the 5207, although it was originally manufactured alongside the 5207. The 5208 added several new features and capabilities, such as an internal 32-character LCD screen, easier programming, built-in synchronization for specific AMSECO®, Gentex®, Faraday, System Sensor®, and Wheelock® notification appliances, and support for SKSS which is Silent Knight's computer programming software. The 5235 annunciator was also released for the 5208 as it did not support the older 5230. The 5235 layout was nearly identical to the 5208's internal keypad, only the annunciator had a full plastic housing. The new annunciator added condition LEDs for Alarm, Trouble, Supervisory, and Silence. The 5235 added a key switch that takes the same operator key as the 5208's internal keypad, but Silent Knight also offered a model that did not have a lock and only relied on a passcode for operation. If a user does not have a key, a passcode may also be entered on the numerical keypad.

The Silent Knight 5208 was discontinued in October 2022.[4]

Rebrands

Gamewell-FCI

Gamewell introduced the Flex 410 in 2003 as a rebrand of the 5209, a modified 5208 specifically for Gamewell.[7] Following the merger with Fire Control Instruments to form Gamewell-FCI, the models were given a "GW" prefix to distinguish them from FCI products. The Flex 410 was discontinued in 2022 along with the other Gamewell-FCI panels.[8]
